Christmas, Christmas time is near
Time for toys and time for cheer
We’ve been good, and we can’t stutter
Hurry Christmas, but please no clutter
Christmas is at the door and it’s time to start thinking about gifts for your kids/grandkids. What to buy? They already have so many toys. I am not against toys, in fact, I love toys, but….does your house already overflow with toys? Are they all played with regularly or was it simply a piece of interest for a couple weeks and then forgotten and is now laying somewhere on the shelf, covered with dust? Why, when it comes to gifts for kids, we are thinking about toys and only toys? Other options also enjoyable and bringing knowledge and experience and fun?
The gift is a demonstration and expression of our love, our care for kids. Do we want them to study, experience, discover new opportunities, interests, or , simply give them enjoy with few toys that finally will be found on the shelf covered with dust? We want to create memories, we want kids to know there are so many interesting things in the world besides toys, toys, toys.
I want to share with you some suggestions of perfect gift for your child or grandchild:
Activities gifts:
I think the best idea is giving one-two classes of any sport-related activities. It’s best for kids to try as many sports and make a decision which one is more appealing to them. This is not about turning them into an athlete or feel obsessed to make it to the top. That might happen but the gift is the chance to experience, without pressure to perform but merely to enjoy. Learning to skate, learning to swim, learning to ride a horse, throw a bowling ball, hit a tennis ball, hit a golf ball, the list is endless. These gifts give the child a chance to make decisions, discover their skills, talents and interests, meet new friends and taste life to the fullest! Isn’t that what being a child is all about?
What about your child being exposed to arts, science, maker space camps? What about your child learning to dance, cook, fly a kite, a pottery lesson, a singing lesson, an art for kids class, the list is endless! The gift is priceless!
Experience gifts:
Gift cards for manicure/pedicure. Why not, for kids aged 8 and over. Great, fun experience and good lesson to take good care of yourself.
How about a gift of a calendar with pre-completed dates with fun things, like movie night, lunch together, hockey game, zoo trip and so on. Maybe even leave a couple of blank slots so your child can make their own choice as to what to do, see, or experience.
What about a “day together” card, the whole day, spend with your child, doing stuff together, have fun together, and maybe even work with your child to have them map out their ideal “day together”. Kids love this!
Wrapping is still a huge part of a Christmas fun. Wrap this gift card in many layers of colorful paper, put it in box, wrap again, put it under the Christmas tree…. and voila! let your kids enjoy Christmas, without causing clutter.
